Beaches in Alcoutim, Algarve

Many Algarve beaches are now classified as 'Accessible Beaches' meaning that not only do they provide ramps, footpaths and walkways directly to the sand but also meet certain criteria for restaurant tables, bar and counter heights. They also have first aid posts and disabled toilets and should be equipped with wheelchairs, walking aids and other equipment capable of being used in the sea as well as on the beach. We include which beaches have been awarded the 'Accessible Beach' flag , although depending on individual abilities you may just want to know that you can park nearby or that there are no steps involved.

We also indicate which beaches have lifeguards during the season (normally April to the end of September) and as a reminder for you: a green flag - swimming permitted; yellow flag - swimming forbidden; red flag - swimming and entering the water forbidden; blue and white chequered flag - beach temporarily unattended.

Praia Fluvial do Pego Fundo

Praia Fluvial do Pego Fundo river beach in Alcoutim, Portugal Praia Fluvial is a pretty inland river beach just a short stroll from the centre of Alcoutim, which is very popular during the summer months and certainly has everything you need for a lovely day by the water. A lovely sandy beach has been created on a bend in the river (Ribeira deCadavais) with paths along the river bank and a large grassed area, planted with a variety of plants and trees, right behind it. During the beach season the wooden cabins along the grassed area are open for business providing refreshments, or there is plenty of space to enjoy a picnic. If you fancy a little gentle exercise there are also some "Life Trail" stations dotted around the green!
Access to the beach is easy and it is signposted from the bridge crossing the river that divides the old part of the town from the new. Drive across the bridge and take the second turning on the left just as the road starts to go up hill (the first turning is "no entry" as it is a one way road and this is the exit) - the paved road takes you down to a sunshaded parking area just behind the beach. Alternatively it is only a short stroll from the parking area on the main road near the bridge.
Praia Fluvial is in a beautiful setting and incredibly peaceful providing a perfect spot for a relaxing break on a summer's day!
