The gastronomy of Alcoutim centres around local produce from agriculture and fishing. A lot of the local dishes are based on pork, lamb, kid, game, hare, partridge and wild boar depending on the hunting season. Aperitifs are normally based around fresh and cured goat and ewe cheeses, olives and homemade bread. Fish are caught locally from the Guadiana River and include lamprey, eel, mullet and black bass, traditionally cooked on the barbecue.
Locally produced wines are available to accompany the meal and for a liqueur after dinner there are liquors made from the arbutus berries (Medronho) and fig brandy.
